Michael C. Carpenter

Michael C. Carpenter was born Jan 23 1926 in Charlottesville VA to Howard D and Margaret (McGinnis) Carpenter. In Rye his family lived at 66 Elmwood Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Michael served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Michael grew up in Rye and Canton NY. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca NY from 1944 to 1946 graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY in 1948 with a degree in electrical engineering

Michael served in the Navy from 1943 to 1948 as an engineering officer aboard a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theater (Japan) He saw duty in Tokyo Bay immediately following the signing of the peace treaty that ended World War II. (See Discharge Records)

Cadet Michael Carpenter, U. S. N. R. R. 0. T. C, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N. Y. where he is under the V-12 program was home for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard D. Carpenter, of Blind Brook Lodge.

Michael worked as a geological surveyor from 1949 to 1954 with Caltex Oil Co in Indonesia and Libya for 13 years (1955 to 1968) as plant manager for Alyeska Pipeline in Fairbanks Alaska and as senior plant engineer with the Nigerian National Petroleum Co in Africa.

He and his wife Stella were married in July 1965 in New York City. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 10 years retiring in 1994 as a senior nuclear engineer.

Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Port Angeles and Bremerton, the Olympic Philatelic Society, the Cresap Society and the Port Orchard Medical Center Counci. He also served as secretary' and a board member of the Senior Caucus Group Health Cooperative in Washington state.

Michael Cresap Zimmermann 74 of Manchester died May 3, 2000 at his home.

Survivors included his wife, one daughter Samantha Carpenter of San Francisco and one sister Peggy’ Staples of Buffalo NY

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church
